This statement sets out how we manage the environmental impacts of our operations and our commitment to a programme of continual improvement.
Our aims
We recognise that storing, transporting and installing goods has an impact on the environment, mainly through vehicle emissions, packaging, waste and the use of materials. Our aim is to manage those impacts responsibly, to meet and where practical exceed our legal obligations, and to improve our environmental performance year on year.
Our commitments
- Compliance. Comply with all applicable environmental legislation, regulations and client requirements, including waste duty of care.
- Prevention of pollution. Prevent pollution from our activities, including spills, noise and dust on client sites.
- Carbon. Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with our Carbon Reduction Plan and our commitment to net zero by 2050.
- Transport. Plan routes and loads to cut mileage and empty running, and consider lower emission vehicles wherever they are suitable.
- Waste. Apply the waste hierarchy: reduce, reuse, recycle, then recover. Segregate packaging and strip-out waste and use only licensed waste carriers.
- Materials. Prefer reusable packaging, returnable pallets, and materials that are durable, repairable and recyclable. Repair assets rather than replace them where that is the better whole-life option.
- Supply chain. Take environmental performance into account when selecting subcontractors and suppliers, and pass relevant requirements down to them.
- Resources. Use energy, water and paper efficiently, and prefer digital records over paper.
- People. Make sure staff and subcontractors understand this policy and their part in it.
Programme of improvement
We are committed to continual improvement. Each year we will:
- Measure our main environmental impacts, starting with fuel, electricity and waste.
- Set objectives and targets for the year ahead, based on those measurements.
- Take action and review progress against those objectives.
- Report our carbon performance through our Carbon Reduction Plan.
- Review this policy and update it where our operations or obligations change.
We will also consider working towards a recognised environmental management standard, such as ISO 14001, as the business grows.
Responsibility
The Board of Directors has overall responsibility for this policy and provides the resources to put it into practice. All employees and subcontractors are expected to follow it. This policy is available to the public on this page and is shared with clients on request.
