This policy sets out how we promote equality, diversity and inclusion in our recruitment and employment practices, and how we train our staff to understand it.
Our commitment
We are committed to equality of opportunity, to valuing diversity, and to an inclusive workplace in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. We will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, bullying or victimisation in any form.
Scope
This policy applies to all job applicants, employees, workers, agency staff and contractors, and to how we deal with clients, suppliers and members of the public. It covers every stage of recruitment and employment: advertising, shortlisting, selection, pay and benefits, training, promotion, conduct and grievance processes, and ending employment.
Protected characteristics
In line with the Equality Act 2010, we will not discriminate on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race (including colour, nationality and ethnic or national origin), religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation. We also aim to make sure nobody is disadvantaged because of socio-economic background, caring responsibilities or working pattern.
Recruitment and employment practices
- Job adverts and descriptions will use inclusive language and list only requirements that are genuinely needed for the role.
- Selection decisions will be made on merit, against objective criteria, and the reasons recorded.
- We will make reasonable adjustments for disabled applicants and employees, at interview and in work.
- Pay and benefits will be set fairly and without discrimination.
- Training, development and promotion opportunities will be open to all eligible staff.
- We will consider requests for flexible working fairly and in line with the law.
- We will check that all workers have the right to work in the UK, applying the same checks to everyone.
Training
All staff will receive training on this policy when they join and regular refresher training at least once a year. The training covers what the policy means, how it affects them, their responsibilities, and how to raise a concern. Managers involved in recruitment receive additional guidance on fair selection. Attendance is recorded.
Raising concerns
Anyone who believes they have been treated unfairly, or who witnesses behaviour that breaks this policy, should raise it with a director. Complaints will be taken seriously, handled confidentially and investigated promptly. Nobody will be victimised for raising a concern in good faith. Breaches of this policy may lead to disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal, or to termination of a contract.
Subcontractors and supply chain
We expect subcontractors and suppliers working on our behalf to follow equivalent standards, and we will take their approach to equality into account when we appoint them.
Monitoring and review
The Board of Directors is responsible for this policy. We will monitor recruitment and employment decisions, review any complaints, and review the policy at least once a year to make sure it remains effective and up to date with the law.
