This policy sets out how we make sure employment is ethical and lawful in our own organisation and across our supply chains.
Our commitment
We are a signatory to the Welsh Government's Code of Practice on Ethical Employment in Supply Chains. We are committed to ethical employment in our own organisation and in our supply chains, and to preventing modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and other unlawful or unfair employment practices.
Anti-Slavery Champion
The Board has appointed one of its directors as our Anti-Slavery Champion. The Champion is responsible for putting this policy and the Code of Practice into effect, for staff training, and for our annual Modern Slavery Statement. The Champion can be contacted at sales@thewildaxisgroup.com, marked for the attention of the Anti-Slavery Champion.
Within our own organisation
- Pay. Everyone is paid at least the statutory National Minimum Wage or National Living Wage. We will consider paying the Living Wage Foundation's real Living Wage as a minimum as the business grows.
- Right to work. Right to work checks are carried out for every worker, the same way for everyone. We never hold workers' identity documents or passports, and never charge workers fees for recruitment.
- Employment status. We do not use false self-employment. Anyone who is in practice an employee is employed as one. We do not use umbrella schemes or offshore payment arrangements to avoid employment costs.
- Zero hours contracts. We do not use zero hours contracts unfairly. If a zero hours arrangement is ever used, it will be because the worker wants that flexibility, and it will be reviewed with the worker at least once every three months.
- Trade unions. Workers are free to join a trade union and to take part in union activities. We do not use, and will never use, blacklists.
- Working conditions. Working hours, rest breaks and holiday meet legal requirements, and workers receive clear written terms of employment.
Within our supply chain
- Procurement. We include ethical employment requirements in our subcontracts and supplier terms, and take a supplier's employment practices into account when appointing them.
- Risk. We review our spending for modern slavery risk. Higher risk areas for our business include subcontracted haulage and driving, warehouse labour, installation labour supplied through agencies, and imported fabricated goods. Suppliers in those areas are monitored more closely.
- Fair treatment of suppliers. We do not put unreasonable cost or time pressure on suppliers that could lead to unethical treatment of their workers, and we aim to pay undisputed invoices within 30 days.
- The Code of Practice. We encourage our suppliers and subcontractors to sign up to the Code of Practice themselves.
- Action on concerns. Where we find or suspect unethical or unlawful practices in our supply chain, we will investigate and act, which can include ending the relationship and reporting it to the authorities.
Training
Staff involved in recruitment, buying and managing subcontractors receive training on modern slavery and ethical employment, including how to spot the signs and how to report concerns. Training records are kept.
Raising concerns
Concerns can be raised in confidence through our Whistleblowing Policy, which also lists external organisations people can contact.
